Tarnish & Gold present new work
from Mike Carney in their
grand reopening show
“Tarnish & Gold celebrates their reentrance to the Minneapolis art community with a grand opening show at their new gallery location in the Northeast Arts District.”
Friday, November 4, 2011 | 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Tarnish & Gold Gallery, The Foundry Building
349 13th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55414
Tarnish & Gold is making their second gallery debut as a part of The Foundry Building, located on 13th Ave and in the heart of Northeast. After a summer spent without a home, we are now nestled in among other like minded businesses. The Barber Sharp, Tiger Rose Tattoo, and Studio 3 share the building, offering patrons a variety of services. COME TOGETHER, a title selected by Mike Carney, fit perfectly with our new mission as we work to launch the collective of businesses.
Using many tiny handcrafted pieces, clay, and spray paint, Carney’s new body of work exemplifies the show title and the polarity between life and tragedy. He breaks down each portrait to illustrate how the survival of each cannot be maintained without one or the other. The show will combine several mediums; including hanging clay pieces, sculptures, paintings, prints, and an installation.
The opening reception will be hosted by the radio station, KBEM — Jazz 88 (88.5 FM) — The Twin Cities’ voice for jazz and education.
In addition to music, refreshments, and affordable artwork, opening night will also be the debut of a Pabst Blue Ribbon sponsored outdoor mural by local artist, Scott Ray.
The show will run through November 26, 2011 during open gallery hours: Wednesday, Thursday 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Friday, Saturday 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm or by appointment only.
